Notes

Recipe Notes:
Stronger fragrance: Add a few more slices of fresh ginger or one additional cinnamon stick rather than increasing the cloves.
Lighter fragrance: Add more water, use fewer cloves, or shorten the simmering time.
Ground ginger substitute: If fresh ginger is unavailable, start with ½ teaspoon ground ginger. Ground spices create more sediment, so stir occasionally.
Reuse: Cooled ingredients may be reused later the same day. For short refrigerated storage, cool promptly, cover, refrigerate, and use within about 24 hours.
Slow cooker option: Combine the ingredients with 5 cups water and heat on LOW with the lid partially open once hot enough to release fragrance. Continue checking the water regularly.
Prevent scorching: Keep enough water in the saucepan at all times. Molasses can leave sticky residue if the liquid level becomes too low.
Important: This simmer pot is for home fragrance only. Do not eat, taste, serve, or drink the mixture. Never leave a heated simmer pot unattended, and never allow the pot to boil dry. Keep the pot and hot liquid away from children and pets.
If you have pets and are unsure about a particular ingredient, check with your veterinarian before using it in your home.
